Stony Plain - Day 12

Blog Day 12

Very uneventful day, with the exception of this beautiful church. We started with a 20 mile ride at 6:45 AM. We came back for a bite of breakfast (yogurt and hot chocolate in my case, coffee and honey nuts cheerios in Mike’s case). Then we went for a couple long walks. We finished they day with a long bike ride. We went by St. Matthews Lutheran Church here in Stony Plain (which is just outside Edmonton) and it was worth taking a picture of. By the way, right across the street was Sheppard Lutheran.

Little notes:

Weather: We have had surprisingly warm weather. Most mornings it is cool and you might want two shirts on but usually by mid afternoon it is HOT. Only rain we’ve had is at night. Today it looked like rain most of the day but held off -- thank God.

Roads: We mostly travel on Hwy 16 which is a 4 lane highway and has a great shoulder to ride on. Sometimes it’s under construction or the shoulder is dirt/gravel and we can’t ride on it. Those days we drive ahead and then bike around the area to catch up on our miles.

Edmonton: Forget it. The traffic and the construction was horrendous, I would not try to ride or even walk through here. If we knew a way through residential areas maybe, but we were lost. It’s a city of 1,400,000. So, we drove through (carefully) and are staying just West of Edmonton in Stony Plain and are riding around here.

Countryside: We have mostly seen plains (miles and miles of plains) with a few rivers and lakes. The exciting part is ahead of us! Wish us well...
