Jasper, Alberta - Day 17

Day 17

This land is incredible! We rode through Jasper, Alberta today. All I can say is WOW!
I promise you that I could take any one of you to any spot, tell you to open your eyes and look up, down, left or right and you’d say "Oh MY GOD!” just as I have (and I mean that in the most reverent of ways). If you looked at what we saw I think you’d say the same thing, including AWESOME, BEAUTIFUL, SPECTACULAR! If you are ever thinking about a vacation up here you must spend some time in Jasper.

Mike and I have been rocking since the half way point. We biked 62 miles on Sunday and walked an extra 6. Today we biked another 60 miles and walked 16. We are in awe of what we are seeing. We heard there are fires in McBride and the road was closed. We are headed there next and we are beginning to see and smell the fire. I have some pictures to come that show the smoke. A
s we sit in our campground we saw a helicopter in the distance carrying a big bucket. Must be water! The smoke smell is getting stronger. We aren't sure what we’ll run into but I'm sure we will find out tomorrow.

A first! We saw an elk on the road ahead of us today. Unfortunately by the time we got close enough to take a picture he was gone. It was the biggest animal I’ve ever seen on the road.

Travelling west of Jasper we had to ride in the motor home. In addition to road construction there was a rock slide and they would’t let us ride our bikes through that area. The rock slide was incredible, with big rocks that came down on both sides of the road. Big time back ups! We noticed the road followed a mountain stream and they formed into lakes in several spots. The water was GREEN….the color of crystal green or new grass color. Hopefully some pictures will show this.

The wind has been in our face and the roads have been going up and then down…good thing we are in better shape as we go forward. Another plus - as Mike and I rode into Jasper where we were to meet Tim with the motorhome, it started raining as we rode into the parking lot. Thank you God!!

Please please keep praying for us.
