It is Sunday and a nice, normal day. Cool in the morning and nice in the afternoon. However, we hear that is going to change down the road to COLD in the morning and cool in the afternoon. One day at a time I guess.
We are in the mountains now as you can see. That means hills to climb (ouch) but worse is the wind - both Mike and I agree it’s a real stopper. We’d rather climb the hills then ride into that wind! This morning we had the wind at our backs for a short time and a slight decline. rode for over a mile without pedaling once and hit almost 16 MPH the entire mile. WOW! Going into the wind is sometimes 7 MPH and a struggle turning the pedals. We passed a weigh-station and they made us stop: They wanted to weigh Mike. Go figure? The fine wasn’t too much. :)Some interesting items:
EQUIPMENT: Our bikes are doing OK. We’ve had no problems since the early issue of a flat tire and pump problems. Our front tires are bald on our bikes and we are thinking about switching them with the rear however that is quite a project. You have to take them off the rims and switch them. We’ll decide later.
ZINGERS: When we ride down the shoulder of the highway we invariably hit small stones and send them zinging. We were riding thru town the other day and I sent a small stone zinging and hit a hub cap on a car next to us and made a loud noise (like the ping from a bullet hitting it’s target). We then think about cars sending rocks zinging our way. Oh well, so far so good.
THE MOTOR HOME: There is an awning that hangs out over the side but it doesn’t work and Tim hasn’t handled fixing it yet. He did yesterday. While he was setting up in the campground and Mike and I were out riding, Tim got the awning to work. When we arrived in the late afternoon it was a sight for sore eyes. Why? Because it was raining and kept on raining of the next several hours. I was able to sit under the awning and have my cigar and glass of wine and read a book in comfort. Still not sure if fixing the awning caused the rain, but either way it was very timely! Thank you Tim.
CANADA IS EXPENSIVE: Very surprising on how expensive everything is in Canada. Some examples: Gas is about $4.88 per gallon. With the exchange its about $4.50 per gallon. Groceries: A case of diet pepsi is $10.95 on sale. An ear of corn is $1.00 (we bought corn on the cob at the big grocery story the other night, 3 ears for $3.00). A piece of Cantaloupe is $3.00 and it’s about the size of a softball (a small one). I could go on and on but what do you do? We are staying in a KOA campground tonight. It was $44 for the camper. It was $38 but he asked if it was only two of us and we said no, there are 3, he raised the price $6 for the 3rd person (go figure).
MESSAGE FROM ABOVE: Saw a piece of paper on the floor of the motor home (like cut out of a magazine and folded up). I opened it and it was a quote in blue: “Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn.” Elizabeth Lawrence. I asked Mike if it was his and he said "no". I asked Tim since it must have been his but he also said "no". Go figure. The message was meant for one of us? All of us?
God Bless every one of you. Thank you for staying with us and more importantly, thank you for praying for us.
Amen.
